Pierre Lavoie’s inspiring story of personal determination motivated us to get behind the 5th edition of the Grand Défi Pierre Lavoie, the event that raises funds for Fondation Go, an organization that conducts research into hereditary diseases and encourages young people to adopt healthy life habits.
From June 14 to 16 2013 I will join nearly 1,000 cyclists, including Jean-Yves, Marie Pier and Hugo, to take part in a 60 hour circuit that runs 1,000 km between Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean and Montréal. We will bike through several cities to promote the importance of adopting healthy lifestyles for the young and young at heart – an awareness raising activity which for me is of the utmost importance. Isabelle Charest, three time speed skating Olympic medalist, is the ALT Hotels’ team captain and I have to say that I’ve been working very hard getting ready to ride alongside her. What a challenge but what a delight to have sport as part of my daily life!
Details of the fundraising
Each team entered in the 1000 km challenge is committed to raising $ 10,000 for Fondation GO. All funds raised beyond $ 10,000 will be awarded to primary schools in the Québec region in order to improve their sports programs. The ALT Hotels’ team will support Anne-Hébert School located in Montcalm, Québec while the PwC / Groupe Germain team will sponsor Sainte-Odile School in Limoilou, Québec. Needless to say that every donation makes a difference!
I also want to let you know that ten of my work colleagues will be joining us to complete a 150 km circuit between Québec and Lévis called “The Loop.” They’ve been training for several weeks in order to help us “lead by example” in terms of physical activity and I am proud of their commitment.
I hope you’ll join us in this mission and I look forward to crossing paths with you on bike routes this summer.
